Not much visible progress this week, due to having a bad cold. I have ordered the steel for the remaining window frames and arranged to collect the moquette from my brother. Heard from Ifor Evans that the driver’s seat will be ready next week. I cut out the former for the larger window from 1 inch block and finished it on the sander then cut out some holes for clamping the material. Shot myself in the foot by not thinking about the smaller window and will no doubt end up having to cut a new former for that. I then turned my attention to wiring and fitting the indicator switch in the cab, during which I was able to amend the wiring diagram I had prepared earlier. In preparation for fastening the wiring to the frame in the cab, I repainted the cab grab handles to tidy them up as it will be difficult to do so after the wiring is installed. Last small jobs were electrical, running the three-core cable for the indicators up from the terminal strip behind the front wheel into the cab.

At the beginning of the week I was still struggling to finish chroming the droplight. There was a problem with sharp edges on the verticals which I solved by filling the gaps with dumdum putty so this droplight is ready for fitting in the window pan. In preparation for a trip to Evans Trim on Wednesday, I dismantled the drivers seat and removed one seat back from its frame. Delivered the back and cushion of the driver’s seat to Evans and had a useful discussion about recovering the other seats. Assembled the next window pan and fitted it to the bus after a bit of adjustment to the protruding screws. I started on the next two, gluing the crossbars to the lower panes to form the fixed lights then gluing them into the verticals. The last two droplights need to be assembled and chromed next.

The long gap in recording progress has been due to other commitments and some some minor illness. However work has been going on, concentrated around the cab. The following items have been removed to allow access and restoration of these items: the headlight assembly, the driver’s seat, the wiring cubicle and combined control box and main switch unit, the interior light switch bank, bell and flasher unit panel (above the driver), and the horn and cab light/step light switch. A lot of the aged wiring and redundant wiring has been stripped out of the cab, the indicator switch remains. Some replacement high-current cabling to feed the lighting switch panel has been ordered. Two new sidelight units were obtained (very expensive!) which means I have a spare now. The access panel to the destination box will need to be removed as the hing is sagging and it doesn’t close properly. The windscreen wiper motor remains to be removed too.
The plan forward now is to get the fuel tank dispatched for refurbishment, the cab floor repaired, the cab painted and the chassis painted in the area behind the fuel tank.
